In December, France will welcome the 21st United Nations conference on climate change: the COP21. On this occasion, the Grenoble INP - Ense3 school of engineering, in collaboration with Génie industriel, Pagora and Grenoble École de Management, have organised a COP21 week from 2 to 6 November to improve the knowledge and understanding of these issues for all publics.
On the week's agenda: conferences and debates, film projections, theatrical events and a photo and video exhibition, with experts from various fields in order to identify the challenges and difficulties associated with the negotiations on the climate and to understand existing or future solutions to replace carbon-based energies.
Global warming is a reality and its consequences are already tangible for certain populations. This COP21 Week has been designed to respond to the many questions that face all of us:
· What perception do we have of climate warming in Europe and on the other continents?
· What is the future role for clean energy, including hydropower, in the context of climate warming?
· How can we understand the mechanism of negotiations at international summits like the COP21?
· What is the place for man, the citizen and business in a society faced with the challenges of energy?
· What action can I, at my level, take for the planet?

Engineering to the rescue of climate change?
For Delphine Riu and Anne-Catherine Favre, teachers at Grenoble INP - Ense3, co-organisers of this special week, the project to create a week dedicated to the COP21 came naturally. "Our school is specialised in the management of energy, water and the environment. We, as teachers, researchers, students and citizens, are already engaged daily in the major challenges of energy and water. The COP21, which will take place in France, is a unique chance to communicate and educate the greater public about climate change and its impacts in many areas. Today, with this COP21 week, our school is committed to playing a role in the transmission of knowledge and values, all the more so because engineers and scientists will have a crucial role to play in the years to come, especially in the move towards energy transition".

The students of Phelma have organised a "Watts up?" conference
Organised and presented by the students of the EMINE (European Master in Nuclear Energy) international master's programme, this conference, which will take place in English on 18 November 2015 at Grenoble INP - Phelma, will present to the general public the latest synthesis report of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), whose essential work has been insufficiently disseminated. Each presentation will be followed by a question and answer session, also in English, with the help of experts who have tutored the students.
The Université Grenoble Alpes community is mobilised throughout the year
Several internationally renowned scientists researching climate issues and who have contributed to the development of the IPCC reports work within the Université Grenoble Alpes community. They have joined together in the COP21-UGA Group to propose throughout 2015 events to help all the regional actors to better understand the issues of climate change: its causes, its environmental impact and its socio-economic and political implications. A series of conference/debates designed to decipher the conclusions of the IPCC, with the help of international experts, but also with the local experts of the COP21-UGA Group, have thus taken place throughout the year. The fourth and last conference in this cycle will take place in November, on the theme of international climate negotiations. Grenoble INP is committed to an approach of "sustainable development and social responsibility", which the institution aspires to transmit to students and PhD students for the co-construction of our future. Our ethical values, our schools and our laboratories are at the heart of this approach based on the national Green Plan baselines chosen by the United Nations for higher education and research in France. More than 150 field actions have already been identified: digital pedagogies to create awareness, training in sustainable development, eco-responsible buildings, awareness of resource-efficient behaviour, the use of 'soft' modes of transport, the acquisition of ISO 26000 certification, etc.
