QS 2025 Rankings by Subject: Grenoble INP - UGA Top French Engineering School

With 11 appearances in various subject rankings (8 in 2024), Grenoble INP - UGA leads the 16 ranked engineering schools, ahead of Insa Lyon (9) and Ponts ParisTech (8). Grenoble INP - UGA is the 20th French institution, and UGA is the 4th French university.

The QS World University Rankings by Subject were published on March 12. In total, QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) ranked 1,757 institutions worldwide this year, across 5 major domains covering 55 subjects. 81 French institutions are ranked.

As the top engineering school by the number of appearances in the rankings (domains and subjects), Grenoble INP - UGA is positioned as follows in the global ranking of all institutions:

  • 123rd worldwide in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • 127th in Materials Science
  • 162nd in the overall Engineering and Technology domain
  • 201st in Mechanical, Aeronautical, and Manufacturing Engineering
  • 201st in Civil and Structural Engineering

Ranked separately, the Université Grenoble Alpes appears 35 times in the rankings (33 in 2024) and is the 4th French university, behind Université PSL (47), Sorbonne Université (41), and Université Paris-Saclay (36). It is the top-ranked university outside the Paris region.

Methodology:

The ranking is based on five sources: an academic reputation survey, an employer reputation survey, the number of citations per scientific publication, the h-index measuring the number and impact of publications per researcher, and the International Research Network index.
