Course: Intercultural Communication Skills
 

2 – COURSE DESCRIPTION:


The course focuses first on the influence of culture on norms and values, with a specific focus on communication. The emphasis is also placed on how to manage cultural differences more effectively: how to identify cultural differences, how to learn from them and how to leverage them in order to benefit from the potential added-value.

3 – LEARNING OBJECTIVES:


The success of companies in today’s global business environment is directly dependent on:
• The capability to build global teamwork within a network of business units and/or partners
• The ability of managers to operate, cooperate and compete effectively across many different cultures
This module aims to enable participants to understand and develop the skills required by today’s business to effectively support cross border organizations and cross functional teams, to improve communication across cultures and understand international teamwork.

Methodology:
Readings, mini cases, interactive analysis and exchange of experiences, group work, personal reflection through a learning journal;
Tools:
Critical incidents, Case studies, simulations

Other works:
Book extracts and articles will be sent prior to each class.
Cases:
Mini cases will be discussed in class.

Pre readings: two short articles will be sent to be read prior to the beginning of the class
Readings: one book extract will be sent to be read between the two sessions
