Goal(s)
Approach to basic reactivities in organic chemistry
Responsible(s)
Xavier CATTOEN
Content(s)
- Reactivity in chemistry: general principles (electronic structure of molecules, nucleophiles, electrophiles,
elementary acts, kinetic/thermodynamic control). - Substitution and elimination reactions with
halogens and alcohols derivatives - SN1, E1, SN2, E2 mechanisms and competition SN / E:
stereochemical, kinetic aspect -activation of an alcohol function by tosylation –
Williamson Synthesis example - Addition reactions on carbonyl groups
(aldehydes and ketones): hydrides, water, HCN, etc.
Protection of carbonyl groups by acetalization
Aldol reaction/ketolization - Electrophilic addition reactions
Addition reaction on alkenes and alkynes according to the Markovnikov selectivity.
*Labworks on experimental techniques:
TP1: Magnesium synthesis 4h
TP2: Synthesis of coumarin by Knoevenagel method 4h
